Brexit ?

What do i think about trading BREXIT next week?

The polls have not been able to throw a light as to how the results might be for either leaving or staying in the Euro Zone.

Currencies, commodities and stocks have been very volatile and leaning towards a result of ¨leave¨, which would generate negative reactions not only in the zone but in the rest of the world.

In regards to currencies, the most affected directly are GBP and EURO – since are the ones directly on the area and being seen as ¨safe heavens¨ the USD, CHF and JPY. Mi plan for next week is not to trade any of these currencies, due to : 1. Volatility 2. Speculation about the result 3. Costs 4. Liquidity

After the result is known I will be very interested in the GBPJPY specially since the JPY has been gaining a lot of value and yesterday Taro Aso, Finance Minister of Japan, said that they will be closely monitoring the JPY and act more aggressively than before if the JPY continues the up move. On the other hand, the British Pound has be devaluating expecting a ¨leave¨ vote. The surprise would be if the referendum throws a ¨do not leave¨ result, that would quickly send the GBPJPY up – convenient for both UK (+rest of the world) and Japan.

If a ¨leave¨ result come out, the GBP and EURO devaluation would continue but I wouldn’t trade it against the JPY, due to the imminent intervention of the Bank of Japan.

FOCUS ! ENFOQUESE !

One of the key issues that i find important to SUCEED IN TRADING THE FINANCIAL MARKETS  is to FOCUS. There are way too many instruments and strategies or methods to trade them.

If I go to the ice cream parlor and have a choice of 10 flavors it´s so much easier for me to decide what I want than if im offered 50, I get distracted by all the what ifs!

To me the same applies to trading, people are lured into ¨tasting everything, the last tool, the best expert advisors, the latest indicator¨ and that just adds to the confusion and going from method to method without really specializing in anything. It´s just like any other career, we must CHOOSE AND MASTER.

We all know that all strategies have a percentage of loses, all, we need to accept that and then work with it, to improve it, to fine tune when our chosen strategy performs best, that way we will be just taking the losing trades that the strategy produces and almost none additional due to normal human error.

One of the first things one must do is to understand market behavior or price action, the why and how is the price moving? That is the foundation for then deciding if you want to trade bounces in favor of the trend, breakouts, retracements, XYZ strategy/indicators. Most people do it the other way around, buy and strategy and blindly follow it without really understanding it.

Do you research, find out what is out there, what do you personally like and seems to work then chose something and stick to it, focus on really understanding the dynamics of it, give it a fair chance of at least six months.
